TO THE RESCUE

FOUR ATTACKERS WHO COULD REVIVE CITY’S FORTUNES

-

IF Leicester City continue their current run of form, reinforcements will be need in the January transfer window, writes Luke Pawsley.

City have looked weak in defence - albeit because of injuries to Wesley Fofana, Jonny Evans and James Justin - which has had a knock-on effect in terms of their confidence in attack.

Brendan Rodgers’ men look less aggressive in the press and have had far fewer shots on goal than at this stage in previous seasons.

They are also conceding far too many shots at Kasper Schmeichel’s goal, but that could be turned around in January if Fofana, Evans and Justin have returned to full fitness by then.

But the four players being most closely linked with Leicester are all attackers. We take a closer look at them.

LUIS ALBERTO

City are “interested” in former

Liverpool attacking midfielder Luis Alberto.

The 28-year-old has played over 180 games for Lazio since joining the Serie A side in 2016.

He has received praise from Italian fans and pundits for a number of years now and could be set for a return to the Premier League, according to Fichajes.

It is likely that Lazio would be reluctant to sell one of their best players, while he is likely to have a number of suitors next summer or even in the January transfer window.

KEANE LEWIS-POTTER

Our colleagues at the Hull Daily Mail recently reported that Leicester and Southampton are among the clubs interested in a move for the Hull City youngster.

The Championship side are thought to value the player at around £12 million and City could make their move in January.

Lewis-Potter, who is still only 20, has scored 20 goals in 86 appearances for Hull having made his debut in 2019.

Based on their form so far this season, Leicester need some extra impetus in attacking areas and Lewis-Potter could be a left-field answer to their problems.

JARROD BOWEN

Despite signing Ademola Lookman on a season-long loan back on transfer deadline day, it would not be out of the question for City to go in for another attacking midfielder in January.

Jarrod Bowen has had a strong start to the season for West Ham, featuring in all seven of their Premier League games to date.

Last month, a report in The Independent said that Leicester, Liverpool and Tottenham are continuing to scout the 24-year-old left-footer, who joined West Ham in a £20 million deal in January 2020.

Like City legend Jamie Vardy,

Bowen started out in non-league, with Hereford United as a teenager. Also like Vardy, he is renowned for his relentless workrate.

ADAM BUKSA

Leicester City sent a scout to watch Adam Buksa in action for Poland during last month’s international break.

The 25-year-old striker currently plays for New England Revolution in the United States’ Major League Soccer but wishes to return to Europe in the January window.

Speaking recently to Kanał Sportowy, per sport.pl, Buksa said: “After two years in the MLS, it will be a natural step to come back to Europe. I would like it to happen in January.

“I do not have my dream club and my dream league. I want to go somewhere where I will have a chance to play regularly and to make progress.”
