Collision Pcso still in hospital

A WOMAN who was seriously injured in a crash during her shift as a police community support officer remains in hospital.

The Leicesters­hire Pcso was cycling towards Loughborou­gh town centre on the A6, Leicester Road on Monday night (October 4) when she was knocked down.

Officers were called to the scene of the incident which took place at around 8.20pm and involved a black Kia Carens and the Pcso.

She had suffered injuries described by the force as “potentiall­y life-changing” and was treated in hospital.

Leicesters­hire Police have now confirmed that the Pcso remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

A 40-year-old man from Loughborou­gh, who was previously arrested on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of drugs, has since been released under investigat­ion.

The A6 was temporaril­y closed on Monday night as emergency services dealt with the incident.

Detectives from the force’s Serious Collision Investigat­ion Unit continue to appeal for witnesses as their inquiries continue.

A spokeswoma­n for the force said: “Our investigat­ion is still very much ongoing and we would like to continue to ask anyone who may have witnessed the collision or the events leading up to it – and hasn’t as yet spoken to police – to please get in touch.”

Anyone who was travelling along Leicester Road in either direction who might have dashcam footage is also encouraged to come forward.
