Driver who was four times over limit jailed
HIS VEHICLE HAD ROLLED INTO ANOTHER
A DRINK driver who collided with another vehicle earlier this week will face jail time after being caught several times above the legal limit.
Craig Hickin, 45, of Cotsmore Close, Heather, appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday for sentencing after being found intoxicated, behind the wheel.
On Monday, October 3, Leicestershire Police officers attended the scene of a road collision in High Street in Ibstock.
The force was alerted by a report in the afternoon that a vehicle had rolled into another and that the driver smelled of alcohol.
When officers arrived, Hickin was found close to the scene of the crash and he was breathalysed.
The reading showed the 45-year-old was four times over the legal drinkdrive limit and he was subsequently arrested, a force spokesperson said.
While in custody an evidential breathalyser reading showed an alcohol level of 122 (micrograms per 100 millilitres of breath), Leicestershire Police said. The legal limit is 35. Appearing in court, Hickin was sentenced to 12 weeks behind bars. The drink driver was also banned from driving for three years.
In a statement, following the sentencing, Sergeant Jon Sharpe, from North West Leicestershire Neighbourhood Policing area, said: “Hickin consumed a significant amount of alcohol before getting into his vehicle and putting not just himself at risk but other motorists and possibly even pedestrians.
“This case shows our commitment to arresting those who commit such offences and they will be put before the courts to face punishment for their actions.”
