A POLICE investigation continues into a crash that left a man in his 20s dead and the person arrested following the collision released.

Officers were called to Melton Road, near the Rushey Fields area, on Wednesday, following reports that a motorcycle had crashed into a lamppost.

On arrival, a man in his 20s - the biker - was found at the scene, where he was pronounced dead.

The road was closed throughout the night as inquiries into the incident were underway and they remained in place overnight.

Police said at the time that one man had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of drugs.

The force has confirmed that the man has now been released under investigation while inquiries into the incident continue. Detectives from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) believe the deceased biker had been riding as part of a group at the time, alongside other motorcycles. Those bikers are now being urged to come forward. Detective Sergeant Paul Hawkins, from the SCIU, said: “This collision hapLeicestershire pened on a main route in and out of Leicester and I am sure there will have been other people who saw what happened too.

“I am particularly keen to speak to anyone who was driving along Melton Road, close to Rushey Fields, at the time the collision occurred.

“If you have a dashcam in your vehicle, then please get in touch.

“I would also like to speak to anyone who saw the motorcycle prior to the collision occurring.”

Anyone with information is asked to report it to the police via the Leicestershire Police website.
