HUNDREDS OF JOBS ARE AVAILABLE

HUNDREDS of jobs have opened up in Leicestershire just a year after a firm’s launch.

Oakland International opened its 225,000 sq ft unit facility in Bardon, Coalville in September 2020 - during the height of the pandemic.

But after a successful year of trading, the family-owned food distribution business is on a big recruitment drive.

Oakland International Group managing director Shaun Foley said: “Bardon is an amazing success story. We launched Bardon in August 2020 in the middle of the pandemic and today we employ over 200 full-time staff.”

The site now aims to employ 300 people by the end of October.

A range of warehouse vacancies and administration roles are available.

And with a capacity of up to 400 staff, the firm said it was keen to hear from locals searching for new opportunities within the food industry.

Councillor Tony Gillard, portfolio holder for business and regeneration at North West Leicestershire District Council, said: “Oakland International has helped to generate a lot of growth for the area and it’s great to see how much its Bardon site has achieved in just one year.

“Despite opening its doors in the height of the pandemic, the Bardon facility has helped to boost the local economy with employment prospects and investment opportunities across the district.

“We’d like to congratulate the Bardon team for making its first year trading a success.”

Oakland prides itself on being an ethical business and operates on a policy of “giving something back” to the communities they operate in. It supports two local food banks and with their children’s charity, Oakland Foundation, it is pursuing links with youth groups and schools.

Councillor Keith Merrie, county councillor for Coalville South, said: “Oakland International’s expansion into the Bardon site has been great for Ellistown and Battleflat and North West Leicestershire.

“They have provided jobs for local people, and I wish them continued success.”
