Police warn drivers over bad parking at schools

- By NICK DAWSON nicholas.dawson@reachplc.com

POLICE will be taking details of cars parked badly outside schools in Barwell and Earl Shilton this week.

Hinckley police said on Facebook on Monday that it would be doing patrols at several schools in the area during opening and closing times.

The team said: “This week we are going to be monitoring parking and taking vehicle registration numbers of those who are parked dangerously and inconsiderately to residents and people walking to school.

“We will be following up appropriately with any vehicle owners we find parked in such a manner.”

Several residents commented on the post to suggest some of the hotspots where they have seen problems with parking and other bad behaviour from drivers.

Lollipop lady Carol Stokes said: “I think driving on the pavement is a very big issue.

“We get it all the time in Kirkby Road, Barwell. Can’t wait seconds for traffic to pass.

“As a lollipop lady I see it every day. I also agree that if they see police they behave.”

Jeff Ellis said there is a constant problem with drivers parking on the pedestrian crossing lines in High Street, near Top Town.

Kelly Turner said there is an issue with people driving on the path near Newlands Primary School, in Earl Shilton.

She said: “My biggest issue is the idiots that keep driving on the path outside (opposite) Newlands Primary because they can’t wait two minutes for the traffic to clear to get through.

“It’s so dangerous with all the little kids walking to and from school and my sister and niece were nearly hit when they were on the footpath.

“I see this every single day.” Nicola Jordan suggested that the police should do patrols outside Hinckley Academy and John Cleveland Sixth Form Centre, and Westfield Junior School, also in Hinckley, where there are problems with cars blocking driveways and speeding.

Call 101 to report an incident.
