CHARITY NEWS IN BRIEF

-

CHARITABLE Co-operative MindforYou has raised £465,000 through its community share investment scheme.

A spokesman for the Leicestershire charity said 150 investors supported its work to provide holidays for people affected by dementia.

Its small group holidays provide a stress-free change of scenery where couples can spend quality time together with all caring responsibilities removed.

Carol Sargent, founder and chief executive, said: “I am thrilled we managed to raise just under half a million.

“I and everyone in the team can’t wait to make an even bigger difference to the lives of those affected by dementia.

“The pandemic has taught us all just how important holidays are and this investment recognises people affected by dementia deserve a holiday as much as anyone else.”

HOBBYCRAFT, which recently opened a Leicester store, is running Paint Your Own Ceramic workshops for children of all ages and abilities.

All money raised will go to its charity partner, Together for Short Lives.

The 30-minute workshops are available in Hobbycraft stores across the UK until October 31.

PUB-GOERS are adding their voices to a huge nationwide thank you to Macmillan Cancer nurses and healthcare professionals this month.

Customers across the UK will be able to submit their personal messages of thanks to Macmillan Cancer Support, which will be written on beer mats and added to a 10ft thank you card produced by the pub chain.

BROCKLEBY’S Pies, of Asfordby Hill, has become the latest business to partner with Leicestershire and Rutland Wildlife Trust.

The charity will now benefit through Brockleby’s adoption of eco-friendly and sustainable practices in the distribution of pies.

National delivery orders are dispatched insulated with Woolcool packaging to keep the pies cold while in transit without having to use temperature-controlled vans.

The Woolcool slab which is wrapped around each pie order is made from British-European wool which would otherwise be discarded.

The pie manufacturer is pledging to donate £1 to the trust for every customer’s return of Woolcool packaging to the Bakery. The customer simply uses the pre-paid envelope provided.
