225 homes bid for village
12 HECTARES OF FARMLAND ARE
A SCHEME has been filed to build 225 homes on a greenfield site.
Gladman has brought forward plans to develop 12.2 hectares off Desford Lane, Ratby.
Vehicles would access the site via an entrance off Desford Lane.
Planning documents filed with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council said: “The development will provide a variety of dwellings and house types, offering a mix of market and affordable homes suitable for a range of people from those seeking to buy or rent their first home to those looking for larger family homes.”
However, the outline application does not specify the exact housing mix for the development.
A play area would be created to the south west of the site, where trees and shrubs will be planted.
The site is bordered to the west by Stonecraft Paving Centre, to the south by a disused railway line.
Gladman ran a consultation with neighbours ahead of the application.
Concerns raised included that the area was becoming overdeveloped and that new properties should be built on brownfield sites rather than greenfield land. Others said traffic pressure in the village is already very high, particularly on main junctions, while some warned that the proposed entrance is on a dangerous narrow lane, which would be even more hazardous with more traffic.
However, one resident said they were looking to move to a bigger home within Ratby and were hoping the development would provide the sort of property they are looking for.
The borough council has recently been criticised for its proposed local plan, which sets out how and where future housing should be built.
Leicestershire county councillors have said that in its current form, the lack of details about where precisely homes should be built, could mean that applications turned down by the authority could ultimately be granted on appeal.
