Sign of the times... views sought on totems for town

- Hinckleywayfinding.com

RESIDENTS, drivers and visitors navigating the town centre are being invited to have their say on signage that is being proposed for Hinckley.

The borough council has worked alongside consultants and partners to produce a new Wayfinding (Signage) Strategy to improve the experience of being in the town centre.

It is hoped that the strategy will help people to feel safe, comfortable and confident in knowing where they are and then being able to reach their chosen destination.

The document provides a review of existing signs within the town centre and also sets out ideas for new, high quality signs, together with suggested locations.

The proposed new signs include totems, car park signs and finger posts, with walking times between locations displayed.

It is believed that this will be particularly helpful for visitors to the town centre.

Signs proposed for removal would be removed in phases rather than all in one go, while new signs would be installed in phases as budgets allow. Councillor Keith Nichols, executive member for town centres at the borough council, said: “We all want to see the town centre thrive and this is just one area that can bring improvements everyone can benefit from.

“It’s a good opportunity to bring some consistency to the various signs we have, most of which have appeared in a piecemeal way over the years in different styles and formats and are not necessarily in the most appropriate places anymore.

“I would urge anyone who visits or uses the town to take a moment to look at the proposals and give us your views.”

Residents are being encouraged to voice their views on proposals by visiting the address below by 5pm on 17 December 2021.
