POLICE have said they are doing all they can to stop anti-social behaviour escalating in a Leicestershire village.

Officers took to social media in an attempt to diffuse growing anger in the Ellistown community after reports of troublemakers causing problems in the village.

The area’s beat officers said they were addressing the issue but acknowledged some residents in the village felt frustrated at a perceived lack of visible action.

“Please be assured that your local policing team and partner agencies are taking this matter seriously and are taking steps to tackle this problem,” the officers from North West Leicestershire police said in a statement.

“We understand the frustration from the local community, but we can assure you that things are happening behind the scenes to stop this from happening.”

The anti-social behaviour, which is believed to be the work of a group of youths from the village, has been escalating for some time.

It is said to range from youths banging on doors and windows to more serious incidents of damage being caused in and around the village.

There have also been reports of verbal abuse, which the officers say they are determined to stop.

However, they did urge caution from Ellistown residents having raised expectations of immediate action.

“Please know that all incidents are

graded based on risk level, so an immediate response is never guaranteed,” they said.

“All reports will still be looked at by the beat team and follow-up actions will be taken as and where applicable.” For now, the force has urged people to continue reporting incidents of anti-social behaviour to Leicestershire Police on 101.

“Always call 999 in an emergency,” the beat team added.
