Vandals target alleyway weeks after its repaint

WALKWAY IS

GRAFFITI vandals have targeted an alleyway just two weeks after it was given a fresh coat of paint to cover up their previous efforts.

The wall along Bell Entry, which connects Castle Street to Church Walk, in Hinckley, was painted white again after graffiti was plastered along the walkway.

The pathway has been a favourite target of taggers, particularly during the first coronavirus lockdown.

Now, more scrawl has been left along the wall and even dated 28/11/2021.

Several other tags, with similar messages, have appeared in recent days along Church Walk, with some marked 26/11/2021 and others 28/11/2021.

Another message was sprayed on the side of St Mary’s Community

Hall, next to St Mary’s Church, with a message telling people to “follow Satan”, adding the number 666.

A spokesperson for Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council said: “Our Clean Neighbourhoods team painted this area about two weeks ago, using money from the safer streets funding.

“We are aware that this area and several other locations have been targeted over the last few days within the town centre, both police, Clean Neighbourhood Officers and our CCTV team are involved in the ongoing investigation.

“These areas are due to be cleaned this week.”

The scrawls along Bell Entry have now been cleaned.

In July 2020, more than 70 tags were scrawled across the town centre.

Graffiti removal was promised as part of the £108,000 Safer Streets Fund investment in the town centre to tackle crime and improve home security.

New CCTV cameras are being installed in Queen’s Park as part of the project, while almost 300 homes are to get free security upgrades in a bid to deter burglars.

Residents are to be offered measures such as high security door locks, window locks, door alarms and window alert alarms.

A total of eight CCTV cameras are to be installed across the central area while more radios are to be provided for security staff.
