Wheeler dealer Bethell wants to be the new Boycie!
ONLY Fools and Horses fan Brad Bethell plans to be a world champion – and the new Boycie!
The 21-year-old welterweight from Whitwick admits that he’s a wheeler dealer away from the gym.
“I buy and sell used cars,” said Bethell, who makes his professional debut at the Morningside Arena on Sunday, December 12.
“It’s a bit of fun at the moment, but who knows, it might grow?
“I might end up like Boycie from Only Fools and Horses with my own showroom – but I wouldn’t sell anything dodgy like he used to!
“I try to buy cars cheap, give them a good clean and a makeover and sell them on.”
Bethell says he loves to watch Only Fools and Horses to unwind when he isn’t training with Ajmal ‘Hudge’ Butt at the Leicester
Unity gym in Beaumont Leys. “I know every episode word for word,” he said. “There wasn’t a bad episode. Every single one is a classic.”
Bethell says that though he loves wheeling and dealing, his focus for next few years will be on his professional boxing career.
He was a good amateur, reaching the last four of both the CYP and Elite championships, and believes he can go all the way to the top as a professional.
“The aim is to be fighting for the British title within 12 fights and then push on,” said Bethel.
“The Lonsdale belt is one of the best belts in boxing and getting my hands on it is definitely on my wish list.
“The ultimate goal is to be world champion one day.”
Chris Pyatt is the only Leicester fighter to win that
honour and he will be in Bethel’s corner in his professional career.
Pyatt works with Butt at the Leicester Unity gym and Bethell says he’s pushing himself harder than ever in training after becoming a father.
Girlfriend Charlie Orchard gave birth to daughter Remy in September and Bethell said: “I’m not fighting for money or fame, I’m fighting for my family.
“I want the best life possible for my daughter and my family.”
