THREE more people have been arrested over a machete attack on a woman in Copt Oak, near Coalville.

The victim was attacked at about 5.30pm on Wednesday while she was searching for a stolen dog, with paramedics and police called to the BP petrol station on the A50 Shaw Lane at Markfield.

She told police she and two others had gone to look for a stolen car with a pet lurcher, Duke, in the back of it when the attack happened on Copt Oak Road.

Two men, aged 52 and 30, were arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and have since been released on bail.

A further three people have now been arrested after being located by Merseyside Police on Thursday.

An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder, while an 18-year-old man and a 17-yearold woman were arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The victim, who is in her 30s, remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

Duke, a black and ginger lurcher, has not been located.

A witness reported that the woman was attacked with a machete and was bleeding heavily.

One member of the public, who was at the petrol station, said: “I was paying for my fuel inside the shop.

“A guy flew in behind me saying, ‘Help, my sister’s been attacked, I need something to put on her head.’ “As I went to follow him out I asked ‘attacked with what?’ He replied ‘a machete.’ “I looked out of the window and saw her standing there, like a scene out of a horror movie, to be quite honest. Myself and another person sat her down. I called an ambulance, grabbed some towels from a shop nearby and we applied pressure to the head wound to stop the bleeding.

“She was certain she was going to die and asking for her mum.”

Police have said that the woman was attacked with a “bladed weapon”.

Detective Sergeant Jenny Tattersall, from the Leicestershire force’s Complex Investigation Team, said: “While we have arrested three more people, our investigation is still very much continuing.

“I would like to speak to anyone who has information about the incident but has not yet come forward. Any details you’re able to provide could be of great help.”
