WITH a number of walk-in clinics open this weekend and next week, there are plenty of opportunities for people to quickly get vaccinated, health bosses say.

As Plan B restrictions come into force nationally to help slow the spread of Covid, the NHS says the best way to fight Covid is by being vaccinated alongside other measures on social distancing and mask wearing.

Health leaders are urging people to get vaccinated for any dose they are eligible for and reminding those aged 40 or over they can now get their booster three months after their second dose.

Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland CCGs (LLR CCGs) have a number of walk-in clinics available.

Dr Caroline Trevithick, deputy chief executive of the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland clinical commissioning groups, said: “As we know, the Omicron Covid variant is spreading rapidly and it is vital we do everything we can to help slow the spread and protect ourselves.

“The vaccine is the best protection we have. Even if you still catch Covid, the vaccine has proven to reduce the severity of the illness, protecting you from serious harm and avoiding hospital admission. But the vaccine’s effectiveness reduces over time, so please make sure you get your booster as soon as it is due.

“It gives each of us the strongest chance of being able to enjoy the festivities safely with our friends and families.”

There will again be a Covid vaccination clinic at the Highcross shopping centre today, from 9am to 6pm and Sunday, December 12, 11am to 5pm, which will be offering pre-booked appointments as well as the option to walk-in.

The Highcross clinic is on the lower ground floor, opposite the former Debenhams store. It is open to anyone aged 12 or over and first, second, third and booster jabs are available.

The Highcross Centre clinic will also be open on the following dates:

Saturday, December 18, 9am to 6pm;

Sunday, December 19, 11am to 5pm;

Monday, December 20 to Thursday, December 23, 1pm-9pm.

A number of additional Covid19

clinics are at various locations this weekend and next week, with many operating as walk-ins, so you don’t need to make an appointment - just check the opening times and your eligibility and go along.

Walk-in clinic locations include: Merridale Medical Centre, Vision Pharmacy in Spinney Hill, Jalaram Community Centre, the Peepul Centre, Fosse Medical Centre, the Prajapati Centre, Oakham Enterprise Park and St Hilda’s Vaccination Centre in East Goscote.

If you are aged 40 or over, you can now get the booster three months after your second dose. You can pre-book your booster dose online if it has been two months since your second dose. You will be offered appointments from three months after the date of your second dose.

Boosters are also available if you are a frontline health or social care worker or if you are aged 16 or over and have a health condition that puts you at high risk from Covid.

People wishing to book a timed appointment at Highcross can do so online at:
