PLAYER RATINGS

-

KASPER SCHMEICHEL: Made one good save to his left and one instinctive stop. He was left helpless by his defence for the second goal in particular, but maybe tried to be too clever for the third in stepping one way. His run without a clean sheet extends to 20 matches. 5/10

TIMOTHY CASTAGNE: Turned too easily by Elmas for the third goal, and while he got forward down the right well, his crossing was erratic at times. Produced one clever cutback for Dewsbury-Hall’s late chance. 5/10

JONNY EVANS: Pounced on a loose ball to get a goal, but looked at a loss with how to defend at times. Not even he could organise this defence, with players missing when he needed them back to cover. 5/10

CAGLAR SOYUNCU: Put Tielemans in trouble for the first goal, and generally struggled to keep track of Petagna, even if the big man up front for Napoli was not the most mobile. 4/10

RYAN BERTRAND: Did not keep in line with the rest of the defence and played Petagna on for the awful second goal. Showed energy to get forward, but offered little in attacking areas. 4/10

WILFRED NDIDI: He made tackles left and right and the end-to-end nature of the game suited him at times, but when City were pressing late on, they needed someone more dynamic on the ball. 5/10

YOURI TIELEMANS: A so-so return to the side. He was overly-ambitious with several forward passes, hitting them straight to Napoli defenders or their goalkeeper. 5/10

KIERNAN DEWSBURY-HALL: City’s star man and not just for his stunning goal. The technique to hit a ball out of the air like he did was exquisite, never mind finding the bottom corner. Always looked to get Barnes into the game. 7/10

JAMES MADDISON: Missed a brilliant chance to equalise when it looked easier to score. Generally, his play was pretty good in linking up with team-mates, but playing on the right, he left Castagne exposed and frequently didn’t track back. 5/10

HARVEY BARNES: Too often he made poor decisions in the final third, shooting from difficult angles when he would have been better off staying patient. 5/10

JAMIE VARDY: Missed a golden opportunity at the end from Albrighton’s pass in his big moment of the night. He didn’t see a lot of the ball, with City’s good attacking play tending to miss him out. 4/10

SUBSTITUTES

PATSON DAKA: Set up a decent chance for Vardy, while a nice back-heel split Napoli open for Dewsbury-Hall’s second-half chance. 6/10

BOUBAKARY SOUMARE: Over-hit passes and did not make City look better than when a tiring Tielemans was on the pitch. 4/10

MARC ALBRIGHTON: Was on the pitch for barely a few minutes and still managed to set up a gilt-edged chance. 6/10
