Drink-driver threw up in police car
A DRINK-DRIVER has been arrested after crashing his car and then throwing up inside a police car.
Following a game of golf on Saturday, he got behind the wheel after consuming more than the legal limit.
Harborough and Lutterworth Police officers described the driver as “highly intoxicated” when he crashed near North Kilworth.
He then made matters worse by being sick inside the police car.
He was arrested and is due to appear in court soon.
On social media, police said: “The highly-intoxicated driver attempted to drive home but crashed trying to turn a corner near to North Kilworth. After being sick inside the police vehicle he was arrested for drink-driving. Court soon.”
Leicestershire Police are
clamping down on drink and drug driving as part of a campaign which aims to tackle the high number of offences that usually occur in December.
More that 60 people have been arrested for drug and drink driving so far this month, sparking growing concern as the festive period continues.
Jonathan Clarkson is the spokesman for the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Road Safety Partnership - which includes Leicestershire Police, the other emergency services and local councils. He is worried about the latest figures, and what they mean.
“As we reach the half-way point of our December campaign, we are disappointed to report that far too many drivers are ignoring seasonal road safety messages and choosing to get behind the wheel to put themselves and others at risk,” he said.
“There have been 60 drink and drug drivers arrested so far this month, which compares to 53 arrests made between December 1 and 14 in 2020.”
