‘Pathetic coward’ jailed for assaults on partner
VICTIM FLED TO REFUGE WITH HER CHILDREN
A BULLY who repeatedly assaulted his partner has been jailed – and labelled a coward by the judge.
Kiran Solanki, formerly Brown, caused his victim so much fear she fled the family home in Wigston and went into hiding at a refuge in an undisclosed city.
The 28-year-old defendant later admitted a number of attacks on her, and sending a text message in which he said he wanted to “kill everyone”, Leicester Crown Court heard.
Prosecutor Lucia Harrington told the court the couple had been in a off-and-on relationship for 12 years when Solanki began to turn violent early last year.
She said one of the assaults, in March, involved him strangling her to the point she lost consciousness.
“He told her afterwards the only reason he stopped was because her eyes rolled back inside her head. He also banged her head against a wall,” Ms Harrington said.
On a day in June, he head-butted and poked her in the head, leaving he with a bloodshot and bruised eye.
In August, Solanki told his partner “You’re ruining my life”, grabbed her head and knocked it against a radiator.
Miss Harrington said: “Her young son was in her arms as he was hitting her.”
On another occasion, the defendant later told his then partner he had hurt their puppy because it “ripped my settee”.
The prosecutor said: “He also sent her a text saying ‘I feel angry, like I want to kill everyone.’ It caused her real fear and she asked a neighbour to call the police.
“She was described as terrified and very upset. He was arrested and taken into custody.”
In a victim impact statement, she said: “I feel so scared when I’m around Kiran.
“I feel the slightest thing I do wrong will make him kick off and I fear for my life.
“He says he wants to kill me and I’m afraid to leave him.
In a further statement, she said: “This has had a massive impact, it’s affected my health. I’ve now had to move to a refuge and keep myself and my kids safe.
“They’ve had to change school and are missing their friends.”
In interview Solanki accepted the common assaults and slapping the dog – an offence of criminal damage – to show it “had done wrong”.
The court heard the defendant, of
Cropthorne Avenue, Goodwood, Leicester, who had five aliases, had assaulted another woman, in 2018.
Sebastian Walker, mitigating, said: “He accepts there was a substantial impact on his former partner and has expressed remorse.
“The defendant has mental health issues and suffers from depression and anxiety.”
Judge Keith Raynor said: “Men who assault women are pathetic and are cowards. She talks of being scared around you and in fear for her life.
“This was in a domestic setting. It was a violation of trust and security that normally exists between people in normal intimate family relationships.
“It was an abuse of power, in front of the children in some instances.” Solanki was jailed for 30 months. He was placed on a restraining order banning any contact with the victim for five years.
