TRIBUTES have been paid to a disability services supporter and fundraiser who has died.

Alison Steadman, who was 77, leaves behind a legacy of support to Sanctuary Supported Living’s Sycamore Court in Leicester going back more than 30 years.

The service, which provides help and support for adults with learning disabilities, was close to Alison’s heart as her son, Dunkan, received help from the team, and she was determined to give back and help many others.

She created the Friends of Sycamore Court, a charity that aimed to ensure long-term future support for those at the Leicester facility.

Over the years, Alison and her team raised thousands of pounds for the service, helping pay for residents’ holidays, day trips and presents for those residents without immediate family.

Her generous nature also saw her pay for a host of activities, including gardening equipment, during the first national lockdown last year.

Paying tribute, Siobhan South, of Sycamore Court, said: “Everything Alison did was about supporting all the residents – whether it was making her famous pickles, organising raffles or running stalls at local events.

“While Covid restrictions were in place, she was a familiar face, visiting on Fridays to have breakfast in the garden at a distance.”

Alison’s years of efforts were recognised in 2018 when she was a guest of honour at Sycamore Court’s major £280,000 redevelopment.

Her husband David, son Jonathan and his wife, Mandy, have vowed to continue the Friends of Sycamore Court charity in Alison’s memory to ensure the good work continues.

Alison’s best friend, Carol, will act as treasurer for the charity.

Ms South said: “Alison has made such a big difference to all our lives. She will be much missed and will never be forgotten.”
