Too close! Viewers turning off actor’s new drama

-

VIEWERS of streaming service Netflix claim to have switched off from a series featuring a Leicester actor because they recognise too many locations.

Stay Close, released at the end of last year, topped the service’s most viewed lists within days of release.

However, the series, which features Leicester’s Richard Armitage in the cast, has infuriated some of its viewers.

Based on the novel of the same name by Harlan Coben, Stay Close tells the tale of how the lives of Armitage’s photojournalist Ray, mum-of-three Meghan (Cush Jumbo) and James Nesbitt’s burned-out detective Michael are disturbed by a terrible event from the past.

However, the plot is not enough for some viewers, with the northern-set drama causing a furore online.

Filmed across various locations in the North West, Stay Close’s artistic licence when it comes to geography has annoyed many who took to Twitter to vent their frustration.

“Given up Stay Close for now after two episodes, completely ridiculous and unbelievable, to say nothing about the random locations around the North West all appearing to be next to each other or a short car ride away,” said one viewer.

“It’s a no from me I’m afraid.” “There’s some big plot holes. One of the characters has just driven over the Runcorn Bridge, through Blackpool and ended up at The Dream in St Helens.

“Not buying it,” said another. “Watching Stay Close but when you know the locations it can be distracting,” said one viewer.

“Set in a mythical town you see characters drive over the old Widnes/ Runcorn bridge.

“Then Blackpool, Formby, St Helens and Manchester.

“I spend most of it saying ‘I know where that is!’.”
