Owners put historic pub on market for £700k
16TH CENTURY FEATURES IN TRADITIONAL VILLAGE INN
A HISTORIC village pub is in need of a new owner.
The Bewicke Arms, in Hallaton, has been run by Simon and Claire Tait since 2006 but they are selling up.
The pub is on the market for £700,000.
The pub has a beer garden, rooms to let and many original features dating from the 16th century, including the stone facade, oak beams and traditional fireplaces.
It is on the market with Christie & Co, which said it “offered an incoming owner a fantastic opportunity to build on its past success”.
The company said: “Prior to closing, this award-winning freehold was a popular modern take on a traditional English pub, renowned locally as a high-quality destination for food, drinks and accommodation.
“Along with the free house, which offers a main bar, secondary bar, sparate restaurant, spacious kitchen and first-floor multi-functional space, the property also features three spacious letting rooms and a harmonious barn conversion retail space in a separate building.
“At the rear of the buildings is a covered outside trading area, with stunning views across the rolling Leicestershire countryside.”
Claire and Simon said in a statement: “We have absolutely loved our time at the Bewicke.
“It has been a pleasure to be part of such an enchanting, historical place, being one of the oldest and most well-known traditional inns in country.”
Every Easter Monday, Hallaton plays host to Bottle Kicking, an ancient Leicestershire game in which the home team and neighbouring Medbourne compete to carry kegs across goal lines, in an ancient version of football.
