PARENTS causing traffic chaos during the daily school-run have been told the problems will only ease if they use some basic common sense.

Officers from Market Bosworth police station said they have visited a number of schools on their patch where roads routinely become choked by traffic at drop-off and pick-up times.

Notes have been made of a number of vehicle registrations and the officers said any further parking offences will lead to a fine.

Outside St Martin’s Academy, parents were found to be parking on the corner of Hinckley Road, a blind bend, which officers said was dangerous because drivers were unable to see oncoming traffic.

They also told drivers to stop mounting the pavement to go around oncoming traffic, as it put children, parents, and other members of the public at risk.

Writing on the Market Bosworth Police Facebook page, the officers said: “We have been to a number of schools on our beat over the past week during drop-off and pick-up times.

“We work a very large area and cover more than 30 schools so we have been unable to visit all of them in the past week due to other incidents we are required to attend.

“There were a number of drivers who have been educated in relation to parking too close to junctions and parking on zigzags, among other offences.

“Their vehicle registrations have been taken and any further parking offences will be dealt with by means of a traffic offence report, which will lead to a fine. Drivers are also mounting pavements to go around oncoming traffic. This is putting children, parents and other members of the public at risk. Do not do it. Wait!

“If you are in a rush, leave for school earlier. If you can’t find somewhere to park, park further away and walk.”

The officers also guidance for parents, including telling them to park sensibly and use common sense.
