A TIME OF TROUBLE THE SIGNS OF THE TIMES

The world is beset with many troubles, most recently those resulting from Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It has been said that this invasion has brought death and destruction on a scale not seen in Europe since World War II and has huge ramifications for global peace, prosperity and food security, which affects us all. Are these things coincidental or a sign of the times? The Word of God - The Holy Bible - has long foretold of a time that it describes as the ‘last days’ when events in the world would be momentous and bring troublous times. 2,500 years ago the prophecy of Daniel foretold, “and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time:” (Daniel 12v1). A few hundred years later, Jesus Christ also foretold of signs which would come to pass just prior to his second coming. He said that “nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places.” (Matthew 24v7). Not only is there much evidence of these natural disasters and conflicts between nations, as foretold, but there has been a particular pestilence which has swept through the world in recent years and is not yet over. The original word ‘pestilence’ means ‘the disease’ and ‘a plague’, descriptions that aptly describe the Covid-19 virus pandemic. Can we not see therefore, that in many different ways, the current world situation is fulfilling the signs in Daniel’s prophecy and also those Jesus gave?

These signs herald the days when the times of Gentile rule will come to an end – in the last days – with the return of Jesus Christ to rule the world in righteousness and establish peace on earth, again, all as foretold in the Holy Bible. The Bible speaks of the One True Hope of redemption to be granted to those who embrace The Hope and fulfil the requirements of it.
