Women seek director of football and assistant manager

-

LEICESTER City Women are seeking a director of football and an assistant manager ahead of their second Women’s Super League campaign.

City battled to survival in their maiden top-flight season, finishing two points above bottom side Birmingham City, and are now preparing for another term competing against the country’s elite.

Before they do so, they are looking to make a couple of vital appointments.

City say they are “going through significant growth and investment” and so are “looking for a director of women and girls’ football to lead all aspects of the club, solidify its position in the Women’s Super League and continue its progression towards major trophies”.

City did have Russ Fraser as head of women’s football for 18 months before he moved to Liverpool Women to become their managing director last October.

The Reds then earned promotion and will be competing against City this coming season, which starts in September. Emile Heskey was appointed head of women’s football development shortly after Fraser’s move was confirmed.

But a director of football will oversee the whole operation for City Women, from building a team, to the on-pitch performance, the pathway from the academy, and commercial growth. The deadline to apply for the job is on Thursday, June 30.

City are also seeking an assistant manager, albeit Lydia Bedford, left, has not yet been confirmed as head coach for the new season.

Bedford took over from Jonathan Morgan a few months into the campaign and steered the club to safety, but she was only contracted until the end of the season on a secondment from her role in the FA developing young England players.

The assistant manager’s tasks will include “supporting our firstteam manager in all day-to-day football operations and pitch matters, coaching players, coaches and staff, and working collaboratively with coaching, medical and sports science staff”.

The deadline for applications is Friday, July 8.
