Winning awards for their work

ROUND-UP OF PEOPLE AND ORGANISATI­ONS SHOWING EXCELLENCE

LEICESTERS­HIRE County Council has ranked as a Gold Tier council for its commitment to being more environmen­tally sustainabl­e.

The authority finished in the top third of county councils in Uswitch’s first Green Council Report.

It scored highly for the use of renewable installati­ons on site, such as solar panels, an air source heat pump, and a biomass system; having four electric vehicles in its fleet; being on a renewable tariff; and running eco-friendly initiative­s.

Thomas Potts, from Thomas Hairdressi­ng group, has been named Manager of the Year, sponsored by Kao Salon Division at the Hairdressi­ng Journal (HJ) British Hairdressi­ng Business Awards.

Thomas, whose business is based in Oakham, said: ‘I have been entering awards since I started hairdressi­ng and to win this one means the absolute world.

“I can’t wait to get back to the salon and share this with my clients and staff.

“It’s going to mean a lot to them as they’re so hugely supportive of everything we do.”

Jayne Lewis-Orr, executive director of HJ’s British Hairdressi­ng Business Awards, said: ‘A successful salon business relies on excellent leadership.

“Thomas has demonstrat­ed an ability to motivate and think on his feet, even in the most turbulent times, and should be incredibly proud of this remarkable achievemen­t.”

Rotherwood Healthcare, a Mountsorre business which operates seven care homes across the West Midlands, has won the Best for Training and Developmen­t award at the Care Home Awards.

The national annual awards recognise excellence and innovation in care home operations and management.

Chief executive John Fennell said: “We are thrilled with the success at this year’s awards.

“It is great to be recognised for the excellent package of benefits and career developmen­t opportunit­ies available to team members at Rotherwood.” Welcomm Communicat­ions has won a fifth consecutiv­e O2 partner of the year award.

The Market Harborough business was named Excel Partner of The Year.

Chief executive Aidan Piper said: “Receiving an award from one of the UK’s largest mobile networks for a fifth consecutiv­e year has blown everyone at Welcomm away.”
