Simon is third new arrival after ‘whirlwind’ transfer
AMERICAN defender Erin Simon has become Leicester City Women’s third new arrival of the summer.
Simon was announced as City’s latest recruit yesterday following the signings of Josie Green and Aileen Whelan last week.
While Simon has joined from Racing Louisville in the States, she does have previous top-flight experience in England, representing West Ham for a couple of years between 2018 and 2020, and playing at Wembley as they finished FA Cup runners-up in 2019.
At the end of 2020, Simon, most regularly a full-back, returned to the US and made 29 appearances for Louisville in the top division across the Atlantic, but now returns for another shot at the Women’s Super League.
“I’m excited to be back in the UK,” Simon told LCFC TV.
“It was definitely a whirlwind couple of weeks for me but I’m excited to finally be here.
“Everyone’s been incredible so far and so nice and welcoming.
“I’m excited to get to know people and spend more time with them, for sure.
“I’ve had some great conversations with (manager) Lydia (Bedford).
“She has an awesome mindset for this year. She has a great perspective so I’m really excited to work for her and be a part of this team. Obviously, for the team, it was tremendous that they were able to stay in the top flight.
“That was incredible for them so we’re pushing to reach a higher standard than that.
“I think Lydia’s doing a great job with bringing players in to do that and it’s a great feeling so far in pre-season.
“We definitely want to climb the table and see what we can do this season.
“That’s really exciting and I’m excited to be a part of this club.”
The fixtures for the new Women’s Super League season will be released at 3pm today.
