Two trophies in two days for PGA Cup player Cort

-

PGA Cup golfer Matthew Cort (Beedles Lake) has had another fine win.

He won the latest PGA Open Series tournament, contested at Cuddington GC, in Surrey.

Playing the course for the first time, Cort shot 12 under-par, his 64-66 rounds and 130 aggregate leaving him two strokes clear of the field.

His seven-under 64 opener was bogey-free, with birdies at six and nine and five more in the second half – at 12 and 13, then three in succession from the 15th.

Cort launched his second round in style with an eagle three at the par five first, but dropped his only stroke of the two-day event at five, before collecting birdies at 10, 12, 14 and 17 coming home.

His closest challenger was Michael Bullen (Ham Manor) who carded a 10-under 132 after 65-67.

Just hours later Cort was back in the winners’ circle, claiming the Glazerite Trophy at Wellingborough GC.

Cort hit five under-par 139 with 69 and 70 cards to finish a shot clear of joint runners-up Ben Hall, from Rushcliffe GC at East Leake, near Loughborough (72-68) and Adam Keogh (Woodhall Spa, 70-70).

There was a six-way tie for third on l42 which included two more county pros – Craig Shave (68-74) and Michael Chambers (Market Harborough, 73-69).

Shave led at half-way with a fourunder, bogey-free score of 68, with Cort tucked in one stroke behind him on 69.

Three birdies – at the third, fourth and sixth – were followed by one at the last by Shave. But he finished on two over in his second session.

Cort went out in level-par 35 in his 69, but had three birdies on the back nine – at the 11th, 12th and 14th.

In his round two 70, Cort was out again in level par, with two birdies and two bogeys, but came back in two-under with birdies at l2, 15 and 16, after a shot had slipped away on the 10th hole.
