Leicester Mercury

Another excellent coach – with a proviso

-

I HAVE recently congratulated the manager/coaches at Welford Road (Tigers) and King Power (City), and it is now pleasant to be able to add Paul Nixon and his part in improving results at Grace Road – with a slight proviso to avoid any more points deductions for the inadvisable behaviour of players.

We see more successes now and this despite there being quite a few changes in personnel from time to time.

I’m sure when the side is completely settled this improvement will continue.

I’ve been proved wrong in a way when I criticised the seemingly vital need to hit the ball into Milligan Road or Park Hill Drive in the shorter forms of the game.

It did not seem to help our efforts in Test matches. Then, blow me down, a chap called Bairstow appears and clouts Test bowlers all over the place, winning Test matches!

His innings to win the second Test against New Zealand was just sensational and he continued against India.

Paul Nixon, after many years at Grace Road as player and supremo, is now moving alongside Rodgers and Borthwick as leading men in charge of Leicester’s top sporting teams.

Unfortunately, I have to quantify my comments, in part only, by the rather silly deduction of points and loss of progress for the team by one or two mistakes by players.

So County do not now go forward. That is rather unfortunate, having had the chance to progress withdrawn.

Lessons have been learnt, one hopes. We don’t need to be guilty of any more silly errors after such great results beforehand.

Mike Ross, Wigston
