- By TOM MACK thomas.mack@reachplc.com @T0Mmack

DROP-IN basketball sessions with Leicester Riders stars are among the summer activities being offered free in the county during the summer holidays.

The events, aimed at 12 to 17-yearolds, will be held at five locations across Harborough district, starting on Monday with a week of activity to mark national Anti-Social Behaviour Week.

The events will then continue at different locations for the rest of the school summer holidays.

Basketball players and coaches from Leicester Riders will be delivering coaching sessions throughout the first week and there will be other activities with Fiesta Sports and staff from Lutterworth Sports Centre.

Each event will have additional non-sport activities led by Harborough District Children and Young People’s Charity (HCYC) youth workers at their Chill-Out Bus, alongside refreshments from the Really Awesome Coffee Co’s coffee van.

Other events will take place weekly on Thursdays, with some coaching available at skate parks from Skate Parlour and a special mobile skate park is coming to Kibworth thanks to the district-based Highline Adventure.

Councillor Simon Whelband, of Harborough District Council, said: “These are really exciting activities and I know young people will be really keen to take part.

“The summer period can be a time when anti-social behaviour becomes more prevalent, but the aim of hosting these events is to give young people something fun to do and create hubs of socially-acceptable activities in our open spaces.” Anti-Social Behaviour Week is organised by Resolve and supported by a number of bodies, including the Home Office, Local Government Association, the National Police Chiefs’ Council and the National Fire Chiefs’ Council. It was introduced in 2021 and was proclaimed a huge success as it sought to tackle the root causes of anti-social behaviour and raise awareness of the impact it can have on communities.

Organiers promise “an actionpacked week, with a focus on the impact of anti-social behaviour on young people, and the importance engaging with the wider public about their vital role in tackling it”.
