FORMULA E star Jake Dennis will be hoping the New York City E-Prix double-header this weekend can help him rediscover his form and make a strong end to the season.

The 27-year-old Avalanche Andretti driver has disappointed this year after high hopes of success following his third place finish in his rookie season.

After making a strong start in Diriyah, where he collected 25 points from the opening two rounds, Dennis has added just 17 points in the eight rounds that have followed, leaving him a long way off the world championship pace.

The former Bosworth Academy and Loughborough College student currently lies 11th on 42 points, with the only consolation being that he is the highest placed British driver.

In a tweet, Dennis said: “Race week and it’s the Big Apple up next! Excited to be racing back on the streets of New York!”

It has also been a season to forget for Jaguar TCS Racing driver Sam Bird, 35, who lies one place behind Dennis.

Both drivers will be hoping to rediscover some momentum in the Big Apple ahead of their home race in London at the end of the month.

This weekend’s double-header takes place at the Brooklyn Street Circuit in the Red Hook district, featuring the stunning Manhattan skyline and Statue of Liberty as the backdrop.

Victory in the last round in Marrakesh saw Edoardo Mortara take the lead in the drivers’ championship on 139 points, with his team ROKiT Venturi Racing topping the teams’ standings by just two points over DS TECHEETAH.

The Swiss-Italian driver leapfrogged fellow title challengers JeanEric Vergne (DS TECHEETAH) and Stoffel Vandoorne (Mercedes-EQ) to claim top spot.

If Mortara can secure a fifth consecutive podium in New York, he will join his ROKiT Venturi teammate Lucas di Grassi and DS TECHEETAH’s Antonio Felix da Costa as the only other drivers to have achieved this feat in Formula E.

Brazilian veteran Di Grassi is the record holder for the greatest number of consecutive podiums with seven.
