A DRIVER is to appear in court this week charged with causing the death of a 23-year-old woman in a crash last summer.

Darcy Elizabeth Reid died in hospital from her injuries after the collision in Hinckley Road, Leicester.

Connor Wilsher, 21, of Coleorton Lane, Packington, has been charged with causing her death by dangerous driving and failing to stop after a road incident.

The collision, which involved two cars, happened on July 3.

Ms Reid, the driver of one of the cars, was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre, in Nottingham, after the crash.

The University of Leicester graduate died from her injuries several weeks later.

Ms Reid was a support team officer at Leicestershire Police and had set her heart on a career with the force, having studied criminology.

Friends and family described her as a “beautiful, intelligent, kind and vibrant soul”.

Professor Lisa Smith, head of the university’s school of criminology, also paid tribute, saying: “We are deeply saddened by the news of Darcy’s passing.

“She was a much-loved student within the school of criminology and studied with us at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.

“She was a very dedicated and engaged student who was always a delight to meet with and had such a bright future ahead of her.

“After completing her studies, Darcy had set her sights on joining Leicestershire Police to serve her adopted city and county.

“All of us at the University of Leicester wish to pass our condolences to Darcy’s friends and family at this difficult time.”

Mr Wilsher is due to appear at Leicester Magistrates’ Court tomorrow.

Two men, aged 19 and 26, were also arrested at the time of the incident but have been released and will face no further police action.
