How pipes upgrade will affect gas supply
WORK to upgrade gas pipes in Leicester will see supply to some homes temporarily halted over the next few months.
Cadent, which runs the local gas network, will be replacing metal pipes with greener plastic ones.
Engineers will be turning off the gas supply to homes in some streets. Residents will need to allow access to their homes from about 7.30am and the gas is expected to be reconnected the same evening.
Information sent out by the company said engineers might need to go in and out of properties several times, so an adult needs to be at home all day. Residents are expected to be given prior notice as to when they will need to be in.
The work began this week in Hopefield Road, off Narborough Road. Pipes will also be replaced in the surrounding streets of Lambert Road, Haddenham Road, Mavis Avenue and Evelyn Drive. The work will last about 15 weeks.
There will also be traffic management measures in place in Lambert Road and Heyworth Road. Footpaths will be dug up.
A Cadent spokesman said: “We are upgrading our ageing metallic gas mains in the area so that our networks are fit for the future, ready to keep energy flowing safely and reliably for at least 80 years.
“To ensure the safety of our teams while they’re working, and to help road users and pedestrians safely navigate the work area, traffic management will be in place on Heyworth Road and Lambert Road, with
footpath closures and some parking restrictions in place along the roads we’re working on.
“We hope people understand this is essential work to ensure the gas continues to flow for heating homes and cooking for decades to come.”
