Leon leads the order of merit after his victory
KIRBY MUXLOE YOUNGSTER WINS LATEST FOXES JUNIOR PATHWAY EVENT
THE third in the series of county golf union Foxes Junior Pathway Tour tournaments was held at Lutterworth Golf Club, writes Jennifer Prentice.
Yet again, there was enthusiastic support from youngsters – both boys and girls – from around the counties.
The series’ inaugural season is open to boys and girls between the ages of seven and 17 and is a joint initiative between Mick Billingham (Cosby) and Anita Higginson (Kibworth), the respective junior organisers.
A total of 120 youngsters registered for this tour at the start of the season and there are five tournaments this summer.
Leon Gamble (Kirby Muxloe) finished overall winner at Lutterworth when he amassed 43 points.
He is currently top of the order of merit table for these fixtures with 20pts, two more than three on 18pts – Seva Johal (The Leicestershire), Henrietta Geddes (Rutland Water) and Rishay Pankhania (The Leicestershire).
Luke Jackson (Hinckley), also with 43pts, was the first boy at Lutterworth, with two, Rory Storer (Cosby) and Rishay Pankhania, both on 38pts, second and third respectively.
Gabriella Crowfoot (Kirby Muxloe) was top girl when she notched 34pts, while Edie Spiers (Cosby) on 33pts finished second after a countback with Amelie Tutt (The Leicestershire).
Freddie Taunton (The Leicestershire) scored 22pts to win the 9-hole section with his clubmate Henry Zawadski second on 21pts.
Florrie Coleman (Cosby) was the girls’ winner on 22pts, and Jenna Wilkinson (Hinckley) on 13pts was the runner-up.
Yasi Pankhania (The Leicestershire) was the boys’ Super 50 winner when he had four shots left from second-placed clubmate Kade Chapman, who finished on the 9th hole.
Two girls from the club took the top two spots in this section – Sofia MacDougall with four shots left, won, with Lexi Tailor, who finished on the ninth hole, runner-up.
Daniyal Pirbhai, who had four shots left, was the leading boy in the Flag 50 class, while his clubmate Edith Taunton, who ended on the 8th fairway, took the girls’ award.
Finley Brightmore (Hinckley) who had two shots left and Alice Zawadski (The Leicestershire) who reached the 7th green, were second in their respective sections of the Flag 50 competitions.
Both Mick Billingham and Anita Higginson said they were delighted with the keen response of the young golfers to the first three tour events.
The final two are in August at Cosby and Birstall Golf Clubs.
