Arrivals will settle in quickly at ‘family’ club – Daka

-

LEICESTER City striker Patson Daka has said that any new arrival at the club won’t take long to settle into the squad, due to the “family” feel at the King Power Stadium, writes Amie Wilson.

City are the only club in the Premier League yet to make a new signing this summer, despite Brendan Rodgers saying last season that he would like to bring in “five or six” players during the transfer window.

The lack of departures has caused potential arrivals to stall due to both the size of the squad and the wage bill.

City are coming to the end of their pre-season with a number of players playing the full 90 minutes in the double header of friendlies against Derby County and Preston North End on Saturday.

The squad were split in two for the games, with Daka scoring in his third game in the match at Pride Park in which City came out as 3-1 winners.

After the match, the Zambian outlined how time to settle into the squad wouldn’t be a problem for any player who arrives later in the transfer window. “We know each other, I think for me it’s really important now, I’ve settled in the team, I know the ins and outs of the team,” he said.

“Now, it’s just about working on the coordination.

“But if a new player comes in, I don’t think it’s a big challenge for them to come and settle in because it’s a family here, so anyone who comes they won’t feel like they are not part of the family. “So, I think, right now there’s no new players and we have to work with everyone who is there, when someone new comes in, definitely they will be involved in the project.” Daka, who joined City in a £23 million move from Austrian side Red Bull Salzburg just over a year ago, said the side can benefit from having no new players so far.

“We have a very good squad in all departments, and like I said earlier, if a new player comes in then they will definitely be welcome, they will feel part of the family,” he said.

“But the reality is that there’s no one new, so we have to utilise that, because we know each other.

“We’ve got nothing to think about, we know this guy plays like this and at this moment he wants me to be at this place, so I think it’s really helpful.”
