KILWORTH Spring GC hosted the one of the county’s longest running medal tournaments at the weekend.

Two trophies were at stake – the Leicester Mercury Sports Cup for the low handicap return launched back in 1923, and the Scratch trophy which was added to the prize list in the 1955 season.

Harvey Fitzpatrick (Northamptonshire County and Kibworth) won the Mercury Cup for the second time when he carded 69 net off his handicap of two. He previously won this coveted trophy two years ago.

Sam Mayfield, a host club member, won the Scratch award for the third time when he fired four-under-par 68.

He also won in 2007 and again four years later, so has enjoyed a hat-trick of success in this event.

Dean Hayden, also a Kilworth Springs GC member, on 92-22-70 was runner-up in the handicap section, with Alan Turton (Ullesthorpe Court) who plays off 6,

third, after a tie on 71 net with Lewis Ferrar (Kirby Muxloe), a 5 handicapper, fourth.

Jake Dandy (Charnwood Forest) was round in level par 72 to end runner-up in the gross awards to Sam Mayfield.
