Sting in Jubilee tale as Lions bid to reach final

MUST-WIN FIXTURE

- FOR LEICESTER

LEICESTER race at home against the Scunthorpe Scorpions tonight in their last Championship Jubilee League fixture, with the Lions knowing they must win to be in with a chance of making the final, writes Alan Jones.

Leicester co-promoter David Darcy said: “It is a tight situation where any one of three clubs could go through to the final.

“In order for us to progress we need Redcar to beat Scunthorpe on Friday night and furthermore for them to prevent the Scorpions from picking up a consolation losing bonus match point.

“If that can be achieved we will know what we have to do as a win will see us through to the final.

“Scunthorpe have been to Leicester twice already this season in the league and cup and on both occasions have lost heavily.

“However, it is another day and we both start afresh.

“With the possibility of qualification for the final there will be no quarter given and I am expecting Scunthorpe to up their game so we have to be at our very best.”

With the new averages coming into effect for this fixture, the Lions make two positional changes, with Dan Thompson and Connor Mountain switching positions, along with the two reserves who exchange numbers.

Meanwhile, Scunthorpe are forced into fielding a guest for Ryan Douglas, who is racing for his Polish club in the play-offs. They bring in Poole rider Richard Lawson at number one.

The visitors were hoping to see the return of Jake Allen to their side for this important fixture but the Australian is still not match fit and therefore Scunthorpe will be covering for his absence by utilising the rider replacement facility.

Down at reserve, Anders Rowe has been handed a team place by Scunthorpe.

The 20-year old began the season in the Leicester team but just two months into the campaign he asked to be released from his contract.

Darcy said: “They have made an astute choice of a guest by bringing in Richard Lawson.

“He rides the Leicester track as well as any visiting rider I’ve seen and I would think that Anders Rowe will want to get among the points on his first return to Leicester since he stood down from his commitment to the Lions.”

Teams Leicester:
