A TEENAGER who was banned from a town’s McDonald’s punched a customer who stepped in to help restaurant staff keep him out when he tried to get back in.

Police had been called earlier to deal with Korben Worby and the 19-year-old’s friends outside the Melton branch.

The group were told they were all barred. However, Worby tried to sneak inside the restaurant, in Thorpe End, after the police officers left, but a member of the public inside put his arm across the door to block him.

Describing what happened next, prosecutor Sukhy Basi told Leicester Magistrates’ Court on Thursday:

defendant tried to push past him and throws a deliberate punch to the head of the member of the public.”

Mr Basi said the fight, in January this year, went on for about a minute, with the pair struggling with each other inside the restaurant, the defendant throwing punches before giving up and leaving.

The customer was left with swelling to the side of his face and pain in his lip, the court heard.

Mr Basi added: “Police arrived and the defendant was arrested. He said he and his friends were banned but he said the complainant was aggravating them, calling them tramps.

“He said the male was unreasonable and had nothing to do with it. He did admit his behaviour was out of order.”

Worby, told the court: “He’s extremely remorseful. He has attended a personal development course and he has found this very helpful and it is assisting in managing his ADHD. He is no longer associating with the people he was at McDon“The ald’s with. He recognises he fell in with the wrong crowd.”

She said he was now working towards being a youth worker and was hoping to get on a health and social care college course later in the summer. She said: “He is committed to making a better life for himself and doesn’t want to be in front of the court again.” Worby, of Nottingham Road, Melton, was ordered to pay £150 compensation to the customer and given an 18-month conditional discharge.
