Hammer attack inquiry continues
AN investigation into a terrifiying hammer attack carried out by masked men on a Leicester home is continuing, police have confirmed.
Three young children were asleep inside the property at the time of the incident, on a street in Hamilton last week.
CCTV footage shows two men approaching the house at night before setting about the front of the property with their weapons.
The front windows were smashed and the door of the house also badly damaged.
The vandals’ faces appeared to be covered by some sort of black plastic.
The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, August 4.
Anthony Corkhill, 37, his partner Katie Gilbert, 34, and their three young children – Ryley, 12, Rubee, 10, and Hunter, seven – were inside the property at the time.
It happened at about 1am, when Katie said she was woken up with a jolt by the sound of breaking glass.
She said: “At first, I thought it was a brick being thrown into the window,” she said.
“I just heard, ‘bang, bang, bang’, and it got more violent and louder.
“I was in total shock and I was shaking like a leaf.”
Anthony added: “I ran downstairs and opened the door and ended up stepping in broken glass all over the front - it was everywhere.
“The two guys had smashed about 18 window panels and left holes in the door and they left a hammer in one of the windows.”
The couple believe their house was specifically targeted, as no other property in the street was damaged, but they have no idea why.
Anthony said that police officers had visited the house and gathered several items of evidence from the scene, including a hammer lodged in a window pane. He is now worried that the men will return.
A police spokesman said: “No arrests have been made and inquiries are continuing.
“We would ask for anyone with information to come forward.”
