Frazer in stellar form on England boys debut

-

FRAZER Jones (Kirby Muxloe) made a highly successful debut for England boys in the home internationals at Downfield GC, in Scotland.

England boys won their match and also won the combined boys and girls fixture for a separate trophy.

Jones played in all six games – foursomes and singles - and claimed five out of six points.

He was unbeaten in the foursomes against Ireland, Wales and Scotland when he was partnered with Sam Easterbrook, from Warwickshire, in all of the clashes, and lost only his singles against Wales.

Jones, who has been playing golf since he was five years old and whose handicap is plus-3.3, celebrated his 17th birthday just before travelling to Scotland for these matches.

His father, Andy, said: “Frazer thoroughly enjoyed the challenge of playing and competing at this higher level.

“He said it was a great experience and he hopes now he will get many more exciting opportunities to represent England in the future.

“Downfield was a beautiful course, but the weather was not only warm, it was also windy, so it posed plenty of challenges overall for all the golfers.

“But the results went England’s way so well, it was a wonderfully successful trip for them all.”

Jones plays regularly for the county boys and has another big date to look forward to with them shortly.

Leicestershire and Rutland will represent the Midlands for the second successive season in the England boys national finals.

They will be up against the other qualifying counties, Gloucestershire, Kent and Yorkshire.

Jones won the 2022 Midland Boys Championship over his home course earlier this summer.
