SPENDING another year at Leicester City would be best for Wesley Fofana’s development, manager Brendan Rodgers said as the club fight off bids from Chelsea.

Fofana is a target for Thomas Tuchel this summer as they look to strengthen their back line and they have submitted two offers so far, both rejected, with the second at around £70 million.

Rodgers said the offers were “nowhere near” high enough for City to even consider them.

Publicly, City’s stance remains that the 21-year-old centre-back, right, is not for sale.

Rodgers, in his press conference yesterday, said that he believes Fofana’s career is best served by him remaining at the King Power Stadium for at least another 12 months.

“I think another year here for him at least would be really important for his development,” Rodgers said ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Arsenal.

“Wesley is quite calm and relaxed on the situation.

“He is aware of the interest. He understands where we are as a club and where we see him.

“He’s just getting on with his work and training well. We’re able to have conversations.

“There were two (bids), but nowhere near what the club would even think about.

“The point to reiterate is that we’re not looking to sell Wesley.

“Naturally if there’s interest from other clubs, that is looked at by the club.

“He’s a top young defender and there are not too many around of his age.

“He’s someone we’d love to keep here but we have to wait and see what develops.”

Fofana is not the only player being targeted by other Premier League clubs this summer, and Rodgers has said he has had to stress to all of the squad not to get distracted by the noise of the transfer market. To do so would be detrimental to City’s keep your eye on the ball and focus on your football.

“It’s notoriously that time of the year where is that speculation and gossip around, but it’s something I haven’t seen in the group. “They’ve trained to a really good level and the intensity has been really good. Everyone is focused on doing their best in games for Leicester City.

“It hasn’t been too difficult. For Wesley himself, he’s a very talented player. “I communicate openly with him. He knows our thoughts on him.”
