WITH the school holidays in full swing, many families may find money getting tight.
At Leicester’s museums, a number of activities are taking place which cost £3 or less.
From railway days to a superhero-themed event, there is sure to be something your children will love getting involved in.
Railway Day
Abbey Pumping Station Tuesday, August 16 and Tuesday, August 23
All aboard! Rides on the narrow-gauge railway cost 50p (cash only), with trains running between noon and 4pm.
Superheroes family fun day
Belgrave Hall Wednesday, August 17 Youngsters are encouraged to put on their favourite costumes and enjoy some superherothemed arts and crafts in the hall’s gardens.
The event runs from 11am until 3pm and admission is £3. All superheroes, princesses and fairies are welcome.
Stained glass bugs workshop
Newarke Houses Museum Saturday, August 20
There’s a chance to make stained-glass effect pictures at this city museum.
Suitable for children aged five and over, the workshop runs from noon until 3pm. You can drop in any time and admission is £3.
Wizard School
The Guildhall Thursday, August 25
Go along dressed as your favourite wizard and design potion jars, create charms and hunt for the magical creatures hidden around the museum.
Wizard School runs from 11am until 3pm and admission is £3.
Other ideas for things to do with the family this summer include a visit to the Humberstone Gate beach, which is bringing a bit of the seaside to land-locked Leicester every day until Monday, August 29.
Run in partnership with Billy Bates and Sons’ Funfair, entry to the beach is free of charge.
Until Friday, August 26, young children and families can enjoy free activities at Leicester’s children, young people and family centres.
Run by the city council, Get Up and Go includes outdoor fun, such as skipping, den building and giant outdoor games, as well as green-fingered fun and seedplanting.
There are also opportunities to play with Lego, bubbles, playdough and paints.
