Seagulls swoop to snatch three points

-

LEICESTER City slipped to defeat at the King Power Stadium, conceding a late winner seconds after they looked to have rescued a point against Brighton.

City gave a first start to Tottenham loanee Asmita Ale, one of four changes from the team that lost to Spurs last week.

Josie Green, Emilia Pelgander and Deanne Rose also came into the starting line-up for Julie Thibaud, Saori Takarada, CJ Bott and Lena Petermann.

Aileen Whelan had an early shot for City saved and Jutta Rantala tested Sophie Baggaley either side of a blocked shot by Brighton’s Elisabeth Terland.

City dominated possession and created chances for Deanne Rose, who made her first start since returning from the Concacaf W Gold Cup with Canada, and Rantala, but it remained goalless at half time.

The Foxes remained on top at the start of the half and tested the Brighton keeper through Yuka Momiki.

Their pressure paid off on 54 minutes, when Rantala broke into the box and her shot found the roof of the net.

The lead lasted only eight minutes. Madison Haley slotted home for Brighton, despite City claims of a foul on Kop.

Against the run of play, Brighton took the lead four minutes later when a loose pass was collected by the visitors. Robinson ran in on goal, rounded the City keeper and found an empty net.

With six minutes remaining, Leicester found a lifeline through substitute Petermann, who was played in by Saori Takarada and finished calmly past Baggaley.

But seconds later, Brighton were back in front through Terland, who rounded off a fluid counter attack.

City continued to press and Rantala had a chance in added time, but her blocked shot ended up on the roof of the net.

City are away at Aston Villa on Saturday with a 12.30pm kick-off at Poundland Bescott Stadium.
