Grateful for life, but not bad travellers

-

I SEE letters published in the paper with people complaining about various things.

Each day I am so thankful and grateful for what I have, with being able to do things and keeping well.

We are so lucky as I look at poverty, famine, people suffering from various illnesses and seeing how society in our country has changed.

As a driver, I find lots of other drivers who like to tailgate me whilst driving. They want to get by as fast as they can with some going over the limit and overtaking me, sometimes even on a roundabout.

It seems times have changed with bad driving, with no indication and not waiting if a bus has to stop for a few seconds.

Also, giving way to buses and cars wanting to turn to the right when oncoming traffic is coming doesn’t happen often. When I passed my test I was always told to give way, but today it has changed with not one giving way.

In Europe, cars give way to buses.

At night when I am driving I see cyclists with no lights or white clothes and I have had more than one nearly under my car which could have had fatal consequences.

I used to cycle but had lights and wore clothing to be seen in the dark. It would not cost a lot to save your life.

When travelling on the bus I always pick up cans left by others and put them in the bin as I hear them rolling back and forth on either the low or upper deck.

The drivers cannot pick them up and I feel that times have changed with people today not being taught to put rubbish in the bin.

We see rubbish discarded everywhere with animals and birds caught up in the rubbish.

We hear about climate change which is not only caused by pollution from fossil fuels and vehicles but we ignore other factors which are the wholesale destruction of land with hedgerows, trees for building and Network Rail clearing hundreds of trees alongside their tracks.

Also, think of the rain forests with lots of animals, birds and insects facing extinction. Even in our country there are lots of birds, animals and insects facing extinction.

In our oceans, although many miles away, it has bearings on our climate as the corals are dying, large ships are being lost in accidents and fires carrying hazardous cargos are polluting sealife.

Icebergs melting is happening with temperatures rising.

There are plans to do deep sea extraction of minerals which will destroy sealife. All this, to a lot of people, does not matter but it all adds to the climate change we will all suffer in the future.

I care about the future for all the young and old as I enjoy my life.
