A JURY yesterday watched footage of a 16-year-old boy sprinting across Narborough Road, Leicester, in front of moving traffic before stabbing a 50-year-old man in the neck, fatally wounding him.

The alleged murder of Junior Osborne was captured by three CCTV cameras in the busy street.

The incident, at about 9.40pm on Wednesday, September 27 last year, resulted in five teenage males being charged with murder and they are currently on trial at Leicester Crown Court.

The jury heard the fatal stabbing was carried out by a 16-year-old, who cannot be named because of his age.

He admits committing the attack and has pleaded guilty to manslaughter, but not to murder.

Yesterday morning, the jury watched footage of the attack.

Describing what could be seen in the clips, prosecution witness Detective Constable Richard Gamage, of Leicestershire Police, said: “The attack on Junior Osborne was captured on three different cameras.

“The footage shows [the youth] run across the road in front of a moving car and we see a large knife in his hand.

“He approaches Junior. He plunges the knife towards the neck area of Junior. He lunges a second time but misses that time.

“You see Junior move to the left of the image and collapse off camera. We see [the youth] coming back across the road.”

The attack happened just outside the Subway restaurant in Narborough Road. Afterwards, the youth ran off into Barclay Street, just across the road from the scene of the stabbing.

The prosecutor, Kate Blumgart KC, has told the jury that while the youth stabbed Mr Osborne, the other four defendants were also there, allegedly supporting what he did.

A sixth man – who has never been identified – also allegedly played a critical role in the attack, riding his bike in front of Mr Osborne to stop him just before the fatal stabbing.

The other four defendants are

James Williams, 18, of Pelham Way, Leicester, Moises Steiner, 18, of Dovedale Road, Stoneygate, Theobald Budzwa, 18, of no fixed address, and another 16-year-old youth who also cannot be named due to his age.

After the stabbing, all five defendants were caught on CCTV sprinting down Barclay Street towards Browning Street and then turning right towards Harrow Road.

The jury was shown more footage of them heading along Fosse Road South, Wescotes Drive, cutting through The Church of the Martyrs site and onwards to a house in Andrewes Walk, near Hinckley Road.

The prosecution has told the jury that there is no clear motive for the attack.

All five defendants deny murder. The trial continues.
