KIERNAN Dewsbury-Hall missed out on the top prize at the EFL Awards but was joined in the Championship team of the season by Leicester City goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

Dewsbury-Hall’s excellent form across the season – including a combined 25 goals and assists for Enzo Maresca’s side – was recognised by the EFL.

But he was pipped to Championship player of the year by Crysencio Summerville on Sunday night, the Leeds winger also registering 25 goal contributions with a few weeks to go.

The duo were on a three-man shortlist for the award, along with Blackburn’s Sammie Szmodics, who leads the division’s scoring charts with 24 goals.

All three were in the team of the season, with Hermansen making it a City double.

The Dane, signed from Brondby last summer, has been a big hit, contributing to the team’s possession game as well as making some important saves. Hermansen wrote on social media: “So happy to be named in the Championship team of the season. “Now to focus on the most important thing, getting promotion secured. Thanks to all at LCFC for the support.”

Leeds were the most represented club in the team, with centre-back Ethan Ampadu and striker Georginio Rutter also included.

Fellow promotion contenders Ipswich and Southampton each had one player in the side, with Leif Davis at left-back and Kyle Walker-Peters at right-back.

The team was completed by Hull centre-back Jacob Greaves, Norwich midfielder Gabriel Sara, and Plymouth winger Morgan Whittaker. Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna unsurprisingly took the manager of the year award as he potentially leads the Tractor Boys to a second successive promotion.

So happy to be in the team of the season. Now to focus on getting promotion secured
