Vote to be held for police chief – here are the details

-

VOTERS go to the polls on Thursday to choose the Leicestershire police and crime commissioner (PCC).

For people who want to cast their vote in person, polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm.

Polling cards have been issued, but are not needed to vote.

Voters can confirm their name and address to the clerk at their polling station.

People must take photo ID to the polling station to be able to vote.

A list of accepted forms of ID is available on the Electoral Commission’s website.

They include passports, driving licences and voter identification cards.

Anyone who has a postal vote that has not been sent can deliver it to their polling station no later than 10pm on May 2 or at their local authority office.

Only the individual’s and those of up to five other electors per poll can be handed in and there is a form that must be completed.

If this form is not completed in full, more than the permitted number of postal votes are handed in, or you are a political campaigner not permitted to handle postal votes, your postal vote(s) will be rejected. Any votes left in the council mailboxes will be rejected.

If you believe that your postal vote has been lost, stolen, damaged or has not arrived, contact the Elections Office immediately.

Each council will count the ballot papers on Friday and these totals will be fed into a central point at Leicester City Council, which will collate the results from across the area and announce the overall result.

A result is expected at about 3.30pm.

For inquiries about postal voting, proxy voting or emergency proxy voting, contact your city or district council office.

The winner of the poll will serve for four years.
