Put on your overalls – things are about to get messy. for autumn/winter 2016, designers have been painting outside of the lines, with colour being dripped and flicked in every direction. the catwalk was splattered in bright, uneven blotches, with christopher kane’s models daubed in inky, clashing tones (and protective headgear) and diane von furstenberg’s runway laying on the brushstrokes. Homeware’s getting arty too – Rockett st george’s Rainbow hanging shade takes the canvas painting from the wall to the ceiling, while damien Hirst’s unique spin chair looks like it needs a ‘wet paint’ sign. so throw away your paint-by-numbers, rent a studio space and create a haphazard masterpiece.
