This month, we’re swooning over west elm’s fab new furniture, the lust-have Jonathan Adler/ Clinique collaborat­ion and design icon Barbara Hulanicki’s latest accessorie­s for Made.com

We’ve always been fans of West Elm’s laid-back/urban/ industrial aesthetic, but have noticed things have been moving in more of a refined direction for its new range of furniture. Dubbed the ‘New Modern’, the collection is sleeker and more design-led than you might expect from the founded-in-brooklyn brand, yet it’s all still versatile. A sofa can make a statement and look great and still be comfortabl­e, just as a sculptural table can do good work as a homework station. The vision is all down to creative director Johanna Uurasjarvi, who has tapped into her Finnish heritage. ‘To me, the New Modern is all about designing for the way we live now – clean lines and striking silhouette­s that still stand up to real life,’ she says. While many of the pieces are inspired by a global vision, local touches are used to keep the collection on-brand. One of the standout pieces is the new Luna chair, created to double as the place you can indulge in cocktail-hour conversati­on or curl up with a good book. Its soft curves are as much about cradling as simple support and the peekaboo cutout in the back feels like it’s giving a flirty wink. If a chair can do such a thing…
