Burnish your metallics
chrome may have been the go-to finish for the most trend-led bathrooms over recent years, but warm metals, such as antique gold, rose gold, copper and brass, are catching up fast. With a veritable feast of shower fittings now available both in trad and modern styles, the march of warm metal brassware matches its popularity in finishes and furnishings throughout the home, from pendant lighting to furniture. So why should the bathroom be treated any differently to other spaces when it comes to design? ‘there’s a big move towards more burnished textures and finishes on brassware in bathrooms. rose gold has been increasing popular over the past few years and we’re now moving into bronzes and golds, plus more industrial finishes, such as brushed brass,’ says Louise Ashdown, head of design at West one Bathrooms. ‘the latter gives an urban feel, but it’s also a warmer look that can sit well with both trad rustic settings and city-sleek style.’ these soft, reflective metallics feel luxurious without being too flashy – look for brushed finishes rather than full-on gloss, stick to a single metal throughout the space and use it as an accent not a main component.
