NEW RIVIERA

There’s a new ocean vibe in town and there’s nothing beach shack about it

PEARL OF LIGHT

You will often find us waxing lyrical about the poetry of good lighting, but Fritz Hansen’s latest pendant light takes our ardour to the next level. Just as an oyster hides its pearl, the hand-blown opal glass Clam opens and closes to ‘hide’ its inner light. Brass hardware inside and outside the shades complements the pendant’s warm light. Clam light, from £806 (fritzhansen.com)

SEA TREASURE

These glossy, shell-like vintage goblets are made of onyx. This pearly gemstone gets its name from the Greek word for fingernail – in ancient mythology an enchanted arrow was fired at the goddess Aphrodite, shearing off her beautiful nails. They ended up coming to rest on a riverbed where they turned into onyx. Set of two vintage onyx goblets, price on request (annaunwin.com)

BRILLIANT WHITE

We’re big fans of sculptor Stephen Antonson’s plasterwork creations – lighting, furniture and accessories coveted for their handsculpted forms and chalky white finish. His Shell mirrors are adorned with disks that resemble clusters of smooth seashells. Shell mirror, £22,344 (theinvisible collection.com)

BEACH BEAUTIES

Dinosaur Designs’ latest collection, Shell, features jewellery and homeware that resemble treasures washed up on the seashore. Sea forms are transformed into resin sculptures for the body and home, evoking feelings of calm, wonder and delight. The collection plays with a gentle palette inspired by the soft kaleidoscope of colours that unfold when looking into a seashell, from coral pinks to earthy neutrals and soft whites. Resin Seed platters in Rose Swirl, from £95 (dinosaurdesigns.co.uk)
