TRIBUTES have been paid to a well-known Carmarthenshire man who died suddenly at the end of June.

Neville Davies, 30, was described throughout the village of Ponthenri in the Gwendraeth Valley as “the life and soul of the village”.

His friends and family have said that the young man, who was known as ‘Budgie’ because he would always walk with his head in the sky, died unexpectedly on June 21.

Neville’s younger sister Nadine Davies, 23, says that the whole village will miss her brother, who worked as a plasterer.

“He was a bubbly person, always had the biggest smile ever and would help anybody at any time. He would lighten up the room with his big smile and always made everyone feel welcome,” said Nadine.

Neville also spent a lot of time visiting Thailand with his partner and referred to it as his “second home” with his “second family”.

One of four children, both Nadine and Neville’s other sister, Natasha Davies, say that their lives will never be the same again.

They said: “His family and friends will miss him so much and their lives and Ponthenri will never be the same. A big legend has gone. We will cherish his memories and remember his big heart forever,” they said.

Friends, who did not want to be named, have also paid tribute to Neville. One said: “Budgie, you were a proper laugh and a big character. Everyone’s really in shock, such a kind and caring person and couldn’t do enough for you.”

Another friend added: “Budgie was a legend and life and soul of the village. Rest in peace, brother, you were gone way too soon. My thoughts go out to his family.”

Dyfed-Powys Police confirmed that concerns were raised for the welfare of a man on Sunday morning, June 21. They said:

“The man was taken to hospital and sadly passed away later that morning. His family have been advised and the death is not being treated as suspicious.”

His funeral is due to take place in Llanelli on July 11 but due to the current guidelines, attendance will be restricted to a small number of people.

Speakers are permitted outside the venue for those who wish to attend and the family have asked if mourners could refrain from wearing black and instead wear a T-shirt and shorts, which was Neville’s signature look.
